Solariums… just another casualty in a long a growing list of things the government has banned ‘for our own good’.
There’s so much that could be said arising out of this article, so instead of ranting my head off, let me lay it out in point form:
- The Environmental Protection Agency has the capacity to conduct ‘raids’. Think about that. No judicial oversight, no having to go to the Police to resource the raid, just EPA officials kickin’ down doors and takin’ names.
- How on earth do tanning beds have anything to do with ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION??? Sure, you could make a p*ssweak argument about ‘public health’ if you’re that kind of idiot, but environmental protection?
- The muppets who wrote the laws banning solariums, as well as the empty suits enforcing those laws, are all on the public payroll. Is this a good use of tax payers money?
- When I say that this over-regulation will never stop, I mean it! There is no area of your life that some small minded man with a tiny bit of power isn’t willing to regulate for ‘your own good’. And once they regulate, they’ll enforce with religious fervor as this article proves. And at no point will they ever look around and say “Y’know what? I think we’re done here. I think we’ve written enough laws, lets just go home and let everyone get on with their lives.” What’s happened to solariums, cigarettes, rare meat patties in burgers, drinks at night, walking, riding a bike, and every other area of life that’s already been regulated will eventually happen to every area of life. There is no stopping point for these busybodies unless we stop them.
- Regulations create black markets. That’s true of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, and it’s true of solariums.
Now you might be tempted to tell yourself that it’s not big deal, you never really ‘got’ solariums anyway, and defending solariums isn’t the hill you want to die on… and that’s perfectly rational. But I’ll ask again a question which I’ve asked many times before: When will you stand up and say no? If these nannies will never stop till we stop them, then what’s going to be the trigger for you? Will you keep telling yourself ‘not now’ until your entire life is wrapped in red tape? Will you only get passionate once it affects you personally? (at which point you’ll find yourself looking around at all the people who aren’t personally affected and wondering why no one is helping you… that’s because they’re all just like you… too selfish to take a stand till it’s personal)
Get angry, get active. Spread the word that this stupidity is happening, that it’s not ok, and support the (few) politicians we have who are actually standing up to this crap.
And if you don’t know where to start, go to my videos page here and share my ‘Lifestyle Regulation Madness’ videos far and wide. It doesn’t hurt to raise awareness of just how out of control the regulatory state is!
And if you do nothing, ignore yet another example of regulatory over-reach and the abuse of the legal system to punish non-crimes, then don’t be surprised when you find yourself in his shoes some day… and maybe not as far down the road as you think.
