The failure of so many ‘sophisticates’ and ‘betters’ to understand what’s happening in the world right now continues unabated. You’d think that after failing to see Brexit coming, and then deciding it was ‘Because Racism’, and then failing to see President Trump coming, and then deciding it was ‘Because Racism’, and most recently failing to see the outcome of the Italian Referrendum, and (surprise surprise) deciding that it’s ‘Because Racism’, that they might have taken a breath and maybe had a look around to try and understand this new world… but no, of course they didn’t.
So they keep behaving the way they always have: Abusing those who disagree, presuming them to be evil at heart, stupid, uneducated, a small angry minority who can be safely ignored. And then all of a sudden they lose. Again.
Well hold on to your hats, folks, because it’s Dejavu all over again!
Many of my readers will already be well aware of the Dutch courts findings against Geert Wilders.
The politically charged prosecution centred on comments Wilders made before and after the Dutch municipal elections in 2014. At one meeting in a Hague cafe, he asked supporters whether they wanted more or fewer Moroccans in the Netherlands. That sparked a chant of “Fewer! Fewer! Fewer!” – to which he replied, “we’ll take care of it.”
Well in a shock to none of you, nor to me, Geert Wilders is enjoying quite the conviction-poll-bounce:
The Netherlands’ far-right movement continues to make gains, with Geert Wilders’ party rising in the polls despite his conviction for incitement of discrimination over comments on reducing the number of Moroccans in the country, according to a survey.
According to a survey by the Maurice de Hond Institute, Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV) was polling at 27 seats before the trial began on October 31, but rose to 34 seats during trial – but before conviction.
The trend continued after his conviction for inflammatory remarks. According to the weekly poll, if next March’s election were held this week, PVV would secure 36 out of 150 seats, making it the single strongest party in the Netherlands.
The PVV holds just 12 seats in the current parliament, meaning it would potentially triple its representation.
And once again the boost in the polls is… Because Racism.
But also notice the complete lack of self-awareness in the title of that article: ‘Dutch MP Geert Wilder’ far-right party rising despite his discrimination conviction.’ [Emphasis added]
Despite? Or because of? Discrimination? Or realism? Far-right? Or just not-of-the-left?
I don’t know the policies of the PVV very well at all, I’ve never really bothered to look, so this shouldn’t be taken as a comment one way or the other on the party policies. But what I do know is that this kind of intolerant, arrogant, and elitist rhetoric from the media and the worlds’ ‘sophisticates’ is exactly the reason Wilders is doing so well, it’s the reason we have a President Elect Trump, and it’s the reason the EU experiment is in its last decades.
Oh, and Geert Wilders is now favourite to be the next Dutch Prime Minister, if some far-left ‘peace loving’ and ‘tolerant’ activist doesn’t kill him first.
It will be interesting to see how Dutch politics plays out closer to the election if Wilders is still favourite. Other Dutch political parties are vigorously virtue-signalling that they won’t work with Wilders:
Prime Minister Mark Rutte, speaking after the verdict, underscored that he and his Liberal Party would not consider forming a coalition with the Party for Freedom unless Wilders retracts the comments.
“That is our stance and it remains our stance,” Rutte said at his weekly press conference.
We’ll see how strong that stance remains if things go they way I suspect they will… Ads like this are going to win him the election:
And unless his opponents wake up and smell the anger, everything they do from here will just play further into Wilders’ favour.
